Assistant Professor in Electronics

The role:

Joining our innovative Engineering department that boasts high achieving students with a minimum grade average of A*AA, this is an exceptional opportunity to share your knowledge with undergraduate and postgraduate candidates studying Electronics. Teaching topics as diverse as micro-/nano-devices for energy-related applications, sensing technology, micro-/nano-systems and composites (of which you will have knowledge of at least one area) you will also oversee undergraduate research and design projects, and recruit and supervise PhD students. Research will form a large part of this role, in which to pursue your own interests and those of the department, including key challenges such as Future Energy Systems – further developing the department’s reputation for outstanding creativity.

To apply for this position at grade 8, you’ll need:

  • A good first degree and a PhD in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry.
  • Evidence of internationally excellent experimental research in one of the above fields, and ideally supporting one of the university’s key areas such as Next Generation Materials & Microsystems. The full list can be found here.
  • Well planned research that will include a clear idea of how your outputs will ultimately be applied within an engineering context.
  • The ability to lead research groups and mentor early career researchers, plus proof of developing successful research project proposals.
  • To be a fellow of the HEA (or willing to become a fellow) with an enthusiasm for delivering inspirational seminars and lectures.
  • Solid communication skills, particularly when forging national and international research relationships with other academic and government partners.

Candidates who would like to apply for the position as a grade 7 post must have concluded or be in the process of concluding their PhD studies. While you won’t necessarily hold all of the above criteria, you are encouraged to apply for this role if you feel you have the potential to achieve these standards.
