The School of Economics at the University of Sydney is a partner in a National Medical and Health Research Council Centre for Research Excellence, which aims to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions designed to mitigate the consequences of significant adversity experienced between a child's conception and entry to school (EMPOWER: Health Systems, Adversity and Child Well Being). The newly-established Centre is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of renowned epidemiologists, medical practitioners, biostatisticians, and economists predominantly based at the University of Adelaide. This position is based in the School of Economics at the University of Sydney, within its Economics of Human Development research node. The research program of this node centres on human capability formation and encompasses a broad range of issues, among others the evaluation of the lifecycle economic benefits and penalties of early childhood interventions and adverse childhood experiences, respectively.

About you

As the successful candidate, you will work closely with colleagues in the Economics of Human Development research node and partners within the Centre to provide leadership and foster excellence in research, and further the goals of the Centre. You will be an accomplished researcher with an established track record in publications in lifecycle modelling or microsimulation modelling and in one or more of the following fields: cost-effectiveness analysis; family economics; health economics; labour economics; education economics; and program evaluation.

You will have:

  • Completed, or about to complete, a PhD in Economics.
  • Evidence of the ability to conduct independent economic research and assume responsibility for the development and completion of research papers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team, and work with other members of staff to meet the aims and deadlines of a project.
  • A track record in research and writing and the potential to develop further research expertise through various projects.
  • A strong interest in the research programs of the Centre.
