Purpose and Main Duties

The Payments Manager is an integral member of the College’s central Finance department responsible for providing a customer-focussed service to Schools, Professional Services, suppliers and students. With the support of two experienced Payments Assistants you will be responsible for the day to day management of the section which processes payments of over £25 million per year. As the manager of a service which has a high impact on the student experience you will be expected to ensure that the work of the team is well balanced to meet all set deadlines whilst consistently providing the highest level of customer experience.

This is an exciting time to join the Finance team at Birkbeck with the implementation of a new finance system, Business World, in August 2018 marking a change in the way that the Payments team support stakeholders. In preparation for this you will lead on the review of all existing processes to develop a customer and solution focussed service.

Candidate Requirements

We’re looking for an AAT qualified, experienced accounts payable manager with strong communication skills to develop effective working relationships and work closely with budget managers to continually improve the operational efficiency of the section. In line with the Finance Department’s vision you will ensure that the team is proactive as well as reactive and consistently exceeds stakeholders’ expectations.

Salary: Grade 6 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £32,586 rising to £37,169 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended (permanent). The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
