The UCL Institute of Education is a world-leading centre for research and teaching in social science and education. This exciting post will be located in the UCL Knowledge Lab, a leading interdisciplinary research centre on digital research and design in education whose mission it is to understand and to develop digital technologies to support and transform education, and beyond. The EDUCATE project works with EdTech Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to help them to use research evidence to inform the design of their products and services. Specifically, the successful applicant will:Support and track the EDUCATE members’ progression in developing a viable concept that is consistent with and grounded in relevant research evidence. Provide advice about a range of aspects of the process of conducting research with educational technology, including study design, data collection and analysis, evaluation methodologies.

We are particularly keen to appoint a person/people with quantitative data analysis skills, experience in implementing experimental, quasi-experimental research designs and using relevant software for data analysis such as SPSS. Produce with EDUCATE members, an agreed pilot study design for the educational technology business concept/product. Ensure that they understand the key factors in pilot study design and are able to collect and analyse data appropriately. Conduct literature reviews and synthesise findings to produce reports for EDUCATE beneficiaries.

The post is funded until 30th September 2019, in the first instance.

We are wishing to appoint candidates with a relevant higher degree in an appropriate discipline, for example education, psychology, HCI. The selected candidate will be able to interact, network, negotiate and manage work with a range of partners and stakeholders. He/She will have excellent technical acumen and an ability to communicate and distil complex concepts into actionable and approachable actions, plus the ability to assess the research needs of a range of educational technology products or services.

In addition, we are looking for an extensive knowledge of educational technology and/or education research including that evidenced through previous roles and/or publications. Across the 3 FTE we require a familiarity with a range of analytical methodologies, including experimental and explorative evaluation approaches their respective methods (quantitative statistical analysis and qualitative and/or ethnographic research methods).
