Senior Lecturer/Reader in Human Resource Management

University of Essex - Essex Business School

Essex Business School

In the 2014 Research Excellent Framework (REF) more than two-thirds of the research at Essex Business School was rated ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly established Organisation Studies and Human Resource Management (HRM) Group at Essex Business School in the field of Human Resource Management as either a Senior Lecturer or Reader.

If successful, you will be part of a team of more than 14 research active members, consisting of early and established researchers with a global reputation for their work in critical organization studies, HRM, and equality and diversity.

We are keen to appoint a talented scholar with experience in any area of HRM. We would, however, especially welcome applications from those with expertise in:

  • International HRM
  • Strategic HRM
  • Human Resource Development

The Role and Duties

The post brings with it an expectation that you will enhance the School’s research profile though high quality publications, grant activity and impact case studies. You will undertake independent research in the field of Human Resource Management or a related specialism, with the aim of publishing in high ranking journals (ABS/AJG 3* and 4* level) and contributing to the School’s REF submission.

You will contribute to the delivery of our CIPD accredited MSc in Human Resource Management as well as take part in undergraduate and postgraduate supervision across a range of courses. You will be expected to develop and provide leadership across the subject field, generate research grant income, alongside collaboration involving businesses and other stakeholders in the wider community.

Furthermore, as a senior scholar you will also be expected to undertake, when required, administrative and leadership responsibilities within the School and/or Group.

Qualifications and Skills

You should have a PhD and a postgraduate degree (or equivalent level qualification) in HRM or a related specialism, evidence of published research output of peer-reviewed international quality, and experience of teaching in the area of HRM. Academic membership of the CIPD, or a willingness to obtain this, is also desirable.

We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the Group.

At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
