The Role

To provide the strategic lead and direction for sport and physical activity at the University of Kent, which will enhance the health and wellbeing and provide opportunities to all students, staff and the wider community.

The Director of Sport will be responsible for the development, promotion and delivery of all sporting activity for the University and for maintaining its excellent reputation and long-term financial viability. The post holder will lead and manage a large team of management, administrative and operational staff

The Person

You must have significant experience of and engagement in the management of delivery of Sports Services to students, staff and external visitors. With a keen interest in sport and understanding of the benefits of health, fitness and wellbeing to enhance the student experience and increase participation.

With proven experience as a senior manager, leading and developing your team to provide the highest levels of service. You will also have experience of strategic planning ensuring the sustainability of sport through sound financial management and income generation.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to build a range of strategic and sustainable sports relationships regionally and nationally.

The Department

Kent Sport has grown significantly as a department in recent years both in terms of its staffing structure and also the facilities and services available to its members. The department provides facilities and a diverse health, fitness & sporting programme to nearly 20,000 students, 3,500 staff and the community as a whole across our campuses at Canterbury and Medway. It is a sporting hub for the county.

The responsibilities of Kent Sport are many and varied from playing a vital strategic role within the University to building strong relationships with National Governing Bodies, County & local councils as well as local sports clubs and organisations.

It is part of the wider Commercial Services directorate and will work in partnership with these areas on various projects.
