An ESRC-funded post is available for a Research Assistant. The postholder will assist in a study on ‘Speech masking effects in speech communication across the lifespan’. Responsibilities will include recruiting child and adult participants and running test sessions which will involve cognitive and hearing tests as well as extensive speech recordings for participants from the age of 8 to 85 years. The postholder will also carry out some post-processing of the data, some speech analysis and will be responsible for archiving this extensive data set. The postholder will also train and assist participants taking part in a study involving experiential sampling. The postholder will assist in public engagement activities and will contribute to writing up papers for publication. The postholder will be working closely with the research associate on this project, Dr Outi Tuomainen, and principal investigator, Prof Valerie Hazan.

The post is available from 1 April 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter and is funded for 14 months, in the first instance.

Applicants must have completed a BSc in a relevant field (speech and hearing sciences, psychology, linguistics, audiology).  Experience in the testing of human participants is essential, and experience of recruiting and/or testing children or older participants will be an advantage. Effective organisational, written and verbal communication skills are also essential, as are the ability to accurately follow experimental protocols.
